Here you can see I'm playing American Sniper. I finally found the logs to prove, at least to myself, that I wasn't crazy. Direct play is disabled." but if I try to play it again with Direct Play set to Force, it plays just fine (using the AC3 5.1 audio track). if I set "Disable video stream transcoding" in PMS and try to play the movie, Roku tells me "App cannot direct play this item. Currently I'm back to the problem where I have to set Direct Play to Force to make it stream the 4k HDR10 video stream, but I also have to change the audio track to something the Roku can handle like AC3 5.1.ĮDIT 2: More craziness. I got this working only during this post with Auto set for Direct Play, but can no longer reproduce. And now, I can't reproduce the problem whereas before I could not get it to do this.ĮDIT: I should clarify that the desired behavior would be to direct stream the 4K HDR10 video stream and transcode the TrueHD audio stream because no Rokus support TrueHD. Then, when I flipped the audio back to English TrueHD 7.1, it maintained direct stream on the 4K HDR stream and began transcoding the TrueHD. Conversely, 4K non-HDR movies will direct play/direct stream to 4K automatically.Īnd now this makes it even more confusing.įor giggles, I told Plex to start playing the French AC3 5.1 audio channel and, miraculously, the auto-negotiate actually played direct stream 4K HDR. This behavior occurs on EVERY 4K HDR movie/TV episode I have without having subtitles enabled. But somewhere it seems the negotiation is breaking down. My understanding is that Plex on Roku should be sending the list of acceptable video formats to the server which is how transcoding or direct play/direct stream gets negotiated. What I don't understand is why I have to force direct play. I know this because if I set Direct Play to Force manually, Roku changes the output to 4K HDR and everything looks beautiful. So, this has been posted before but the OP's issue was PGS subtitles.
